Study Opportunities/Faith Development

“Our mission is to make disciples by inviting, developing, and sending people in the name of Jesus Christ through a worshipping, nurturing and teaching fellowship.”

Small groups are a means Christians have used since the early church to carry out the mission of the church. From Acts 2:

"They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. …Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved."

Small groups continue to gather us together to share in the tasks of inviting (connecting), developing (teaching/learning) and sending (being Christ’s hands and feet in the world.) In small groups we gather with our individual spiritual journeys, share, and grow both as individuals and as a community as we accomplish our goals of discipleship.

Covenant Discipleship is a small-group ministry in the Wesleyan tradition. Groups meet weekly for one hour. The agenda is a covenant written by the group based upon the General Rule of Discipleship: To witness to Jesus Christ in the world and to follow his teachings through acts of compassion, justice, worship and devotion under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Through a process of mutual accountability and support for practicing the basics of Christian faith, members “watch over one another in love.”

The most basic question everyone faces in life is Why am I here? What is my purpose? Self-help books suggest that people should look within, at their own desires and dreams, but Rick Warren says the starting place must be with God and his eternal purposes for each life. Real meaning and significance comes from understanding and fulfilling God’s purposes for putting us on earth.
